About Us
Since 1997, Cream City Soap Company has been creating aromatherapy products in Milwaukee. Our raw materials are fresh, and we make small batches by hand, to ensure the best quality.
We started with just soap, but now we offer a full array of bath, body and home products that are healthy, sustainable and biodegradable. Our packaging reflects our concern about single use containers. Soap is sold naked. Other products are packed in compostable paper pouches. When we have no alternative, we use plastic that is easily recycled. Our glass vials and bottles can be refilled here at the store. The refill price will be $1 cheaper than the regular refill price.
We are located in the heart of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin at 6927 W. North Ave. Stop in for a chat!
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you love our products!
Our Soap: Our soap is vegan!* We use olive, coconut and soybean oils to make our soap from scratch. Your skin will feel soft and healthy, never dried out.
*Our only exception is our Oatmeal, Honey and Cocoa Butter Soap, which contains honey.
Scents: Our products are scented with expensive essential oils. Essential oils are the compounds inside a plant's cells that give the plant its scent. Tons of plant matter are collected by large distilleries and the oils are then extracted. Some essential oils are light and act almost like an alcohol and evaporate very quickly into the air. Some are dark, almost black, and are thick and sticky like a resin. These do not evaporate quickly.
Artificial fragrances are never used in our products.
Colors: Only natural colors are used, such as flower buds, ground spices and herbs, earth pigments and cocoa powder.
Artificial colors are never used in our products.
Shipping: We use starch-based packing peanuts or shredded paper to cushion our shipments. If you happen to find some plastic or bubble wrap, it is because we are reusing it from our own suppliers. We suggest you do the same if possible.
Preservatives: The use of preservatives is avoided if possible. That is why many items are sold in a dry form. However, if a product contains water, or could acquire water into during normal use, preservatives must be used. Brain Perry from Microbiology Today writes, "Organisms commonly isolated from poorly preserved water-based products include Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Staphylococcus and Bacillus species, Pseudomonas, including P. aeruginosa, Burkholderia cepacia, Penicillium and Candida albicans." Those are no fun.
As of today, there exist no natural preservatives. Some say that grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is a natural preservative, but it has been shown that GSE has no natural preservation powers whatsoever. Studies have proven that the antimicrobial effects are derived from a preservative added while manufacturing GSE.
